Cargo Shipping from Dubai to India
If you’re arranging cargo shipping from Dubai to India, you don’t want a freight forwarder who’s still learning your route. This lane is one we run constantly. As the Indian branch of Aeon Shipping, we handle everything from a couple of boxes of personal effects to full container loads coming in from the UAE. After many years on the route, very little about it surprises us anymore.
Dubai and India trade back and forth so heavily that the two feel more like extensions of one market than separate countries. Businesses import components and finished goods constantly. Families relocate back home from the UAE all the time. None of it should feel as complicated as it usually does. That’s the part we take off your hands.
How to Import from Dubai to India?
Importing from Dubai to India looks simple on paper. Book space, load the cargo, wait for it to land. In reality, there’s a sequence underneath that. Skip a step, and a routine shipment turns into a held-up one.
It starts with your IEC — Import Export Code — on the India side. No commercial cargo clears Indian customs without one. From there, goods need the correct HS code, the right duty valuation, and a shipping mode that actually suits what’s moving and how soon it’s needed.
Next comes export clearance in Dubai, documentation, booking the freight, loading, transit, and customs clearance again once the shipment reaches Indian shores. Written out, it’s a long list. Handling it yourself across two countries and two sets of regulations takes real coordination — which is why we run the whole chain as one service, instead of handing you off between vendors.

Documents You Will Need to Import from Dubai to India
Paperwork trips people up more than the shipping itself ever does. Get the documents right before your cargo leaves Dubai, and you avoid most of the delays that happen at customs on either end. Here’s roughly what you’ll be dealing with:
- Importer Exporter Code (IEC) — a 10-digit number from India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade, linked to your business PAN. No commercial shipment clears Indian customs without this in place first.
- Bill of Entry — the primary customs document for clearing imported goods in India. Filed with Indian Customs through ICEGATE, it declares your goods, drives the duty assessment, and is what actually gets your shipment released at the port. Nothing moves out of customs without it.
- Commercial Invoice & Packing List — the invoice states value and nature of goods; the packing list itemises what’s actually inside each carton or crate. Customs on both ends lean on these to clear your shipment.
- Bill of Lading (for sea) or Airway Bill (for air) — proof of shipment and your contract with the carrier. It’s also what you, as the receiver in India, need to actually take delivery.
- Certificate of Origin — shows where the goods were made, which matters for customs valuation and can unlock lower duties on qualifying goods under the India-UAE CEPA.
- Certificate of Inspection — needed for certain regulated categories, confirming the goods meet whatever quality or safety bar applies.
- Import License — required for restricted categories like certain chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and electronics, issued by the DGFT before the goods can enter India.
Some products carry extra requirements on top of these. Food items often need a halal or FSSAI-linked certificate. Certain chemicals and lithium batteries are restricted outright. We flag this stuff early, so it doesn’t blindside you at the port. If you’re not sure what applies to your cargo, that’s a conversation worth having with us before you book anything.

Ports and Cities Used When Importing from Dubai to India
Most cargo shipping from Dubai to India moves through Jebel Ali Port, the main hub on the Dubai side and one of the busiest ports in the region. From there, it typically lands at Mumbai (Nhava Sheva/JNPT) or Mundra — the two western Indian ports best placed for the shorter Arabian Sea crossing.
Depending on where your cargo is ultimately headed inland, we’ll also route through Kandla, Pipavav, or a southern port if that gets your shipment moving faster and cheaper. We don’t default to one hub just because it’s easiest for us. Time-sensitive freight, meanwhile, comes in through India’s major air cargo terminals rather than by sea.
Methods of Shipping to India from Dubai
There’s no single right way to ship from UAE to India. It depends on what you’re moving, your budget, and your timeline. We run all three modes, so the choice is genuinely about what fits your shipment.
Air Freight
When speed matters more than cost, air is the answer. High-value electronics, urgent business shipments, anything on a deadline — this is the mode for it. The flight itself takes only a couple of hours. With efficient handling on both ends, your cargo can be in Indian hands within a day or two of leaving Dubai.

Sea Freight
This is where the bulk of shipping goods from Dubai to India actually happens. It’s the more affordable option for larger volumes, and it suits anything that isn’t racing a deadline. We run FCL for full container loads and LCL when your shipment doesn’t need a whole container to itself — no reason to pay for space you don’t use. Transit typically runs 3 to 10 days, depending on the port pairing and vessel schedule.

Land Freight
This isn’t a direct option for the Dubai-India leg itself, given the sea between them. But it matters for the onward journey — moving cargo from an Indian port to its final destination inland, or consolidating regional freight from across the GCC before it ships out of Dubai. We manage this leg too, whenever it’s part of your shipment.

Why choose Aeon Shipping India for International Cargo Services?
Most freight forwarders will say they can handle your shipment. Fewer can show the track record behind that claim. As the Indian branch of Aeon Shipping — a Dubai-based freight forwarder with 15+ years in the business — we’re part of a parent company that’s completed 20,000+ shipments across 135+ countries. We hold a 98% on-time delivery record and carry a 4.5-star average across 1,300+ Google reviews. That kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident.
Trusted Packing and Shipping Service
Poor packing is one of the most preventable reasons cargo arrives damaged. We match the method to the cargo: crating for machinery, palletising for bulk goods, specialised wrapping for household items. What leaves Dubai is what arrives in India, intact.
International Shipping Experience
Fifteen-plus years and 20,000+ shipments means we’ve generally seen a given problem before it becomes your problem: port delays, documentation gaps, last-minute customs queries. That experience is what keeps a shipment moving instead of sitting.
Warehouse Storage Facilities
Sometimes cargo needs to wait. You might be consolidating a shipment, timing a delivery, or building in a buffer before final handover. Our warehouse space in India gives you that room, with full visibility, rather than your goods disappearing into someone else’s facility.
Handling Customs
More shipments stall here than anywhere else, usually over paperwork issues. We manage clearance on both ends — export from Dubai, import into India — so you’re not the one stuck chasing a customs query.
FAQs When Shipping Goods from Dubai to India
A few of the questions we get asked most often about shipping goods from Dubai to India:
Can you ship household goods from the UAE to India?
Yes. This is one of our most regular jobs. We pack at your door in Dubai and deliver to your new address in India, for individuals and relocating families alike.
Can you ship refrigerated cargo from Dubai to India?
Yes. We handle temperature-controlled cargo with a proper cold chain maintained throughout, whether it travels by air or sea.
Can Aeon India handle RoRo shipping services from Dubai to India?
Yes. For vehicles, boats, and certain machinery, RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) is often the more practical and cost-effective choice over standard container shipping.
How much will it cost to import goods from Dubai to India?
Cost depends on cargo type, weight, volume, shipping mode, and how quickly it needs to arrive. That’s too many variables for a flat number to mean much. We’d rather work out a real quote against your actual shipment than give you a figure that won’t hold up.
Do you provide insurance during the shipment?
Yes. Cargo insurance is available on every shipment, and we’d recommend it, especially for anything high-value, fragile, or travelling a long distance by sea. Cover typically extends to damage, loss, and theft in transit, so a problem doesn’t become a cost you absorb alone. We’ll walk you through the right level of cover once we know what you are shipping.
Will Aeon India assist me with taxes and customs clearance documents while shipping from Dubai to India?
Yes. We provide full customs documentation and clearance support, covering both the export side in Dubai and the import side in India, so you’re not left interpreting the regulations on your own.
